Victoria has a proud tradition of caring for its forebears in a system of public cemeteries. The management and operation of cemeteries and crematoria in Victoria is governed by the Cemeteries and Crematoria Act and Cemeteries and Crematoria Regulations.
The Bellbrae Cemetery Trust, and its Trust Members, are charged with the responsibility of ensuring our cemetery is well cared for, managed and maintained to meet the immediate needs of our community and for perpetuity. Our Trust Members give their time and expertise in a voluntary capacity to ensure ongoing community ‘ownership’ of the Bellbrae Cemetery.
The Act is available on the Victorian Legislation and Parliamentary Documents website: click on ‘Victorian law today’, select ‘Acts’ and then search for ‘cemeteries’. The Department of Health & Human Services Cemeteries and Crematoria Regulation Unit provides support to cemetery Trusts and other stakeholders to help them meet statutory obligations.
